LA FAVORITE - Aged Rum - La Flibuste Cuvée - Vintage 1992 - 40% ABV
La Favorite is one of the very last iconic independent distilleries in Martinique, alongside Neisson. Founded in 1842 on the remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it adopted the name La Favorite in 1851, marking the beginning of a rich and authentic history. In 1909, Henri Dormoy acquired the distillery and made several strategic improvements to transform this sugar factory into a recognized distillery. After a period of interruption linked to the troubles of Albert Dormoy, his son passionate about gambling, the activity ceased in the 1938s. It was only in 1956 that André, Albert's younger brother, took over the distillery and completely renovated it, restoring its life and prestige. Today, La Favorite cultivates its own sugarcane on 60 hectares and also sources from small local producers, ensuring exemplary quality and traceability. The distillery still operates entirely thanks to a steam engine dating from 1906, a true symbol of its longevity and ancestral know-how. The vesou (cane wine), obtained by a long fermentation that can last up to 72 hours, is distilled in two Creole columns, one made entirely of copper used since 1957, and a more modern one acquired in 1986.
The La Favorite Flibuste Cuvée is among the brand's most prestigious references, helping to increase its international reputation. This 1993 vintage, carefully aged for 25 years in oak barrels previously used for aging Cognac, benefits from the expertise of Cellar Master Robert Charles. The wood, imbued with the rich and complex flavors of Cognac, imparts nuanced, subtle, and voluptuous aromas to the rum, thus enriching the olfactory and gustatory palette of this exceptional cuvée. Produced in a limited edition of only 6,000 bottles per year, each bottle is blended, waxed, and numbered by hand, emphasizing the authenticity, artisanal character, and exclusivity of this unique creation.
