The prestigious history of JM rums begins in the heart of lush vegetation, within one of the most beautiful distilleries in Martinique: the Fonds-Préville estate, located in Macouba. The first distillations took place in 1845 under the initiative of Jean-Marie Martin, whose initials "JM" have since adorned the bottles of these exceptional rums. At the beginning of the 20th century, in 1912, the distillery was taken over by Ernest Crassous de Médeuil and his brother Gustave, who were also owners of the Bellevue estate. After numerous improvements and modernization works, the two properties merged to give birth to the current Habitation Fonds-Préville. Today, the Bernard Hayot Group is the majority shareholder of SCA Héritiers Crassous de Médeuil, ensuring the continuity and excellence of this emblematic house.
The sugar canes are carefully cultivated on the Fonds-Préville estate, which covers 225 hectares. This unique terroir, located on the fertile slopes of Montagne Pelée, gives the canes a superior quality recognized worldwide. The juice ferments naturally before being distilled in two traditional Creole copper columns, strictly up to 72° to preserve the authenticity and incomparable aromatic richness of the sugar cane. The distillery exclusively uses crystal-clear spring water from Montagne Pelée, a key asset for the purity of this exceptional agricole rum.
