RHUM DEPAZ - Old agricultural plantation rum - 45%
The Depaz distillery takes root in the heart of the emblematic La Montagne estate, located in Saint-Pierre, at the majestic foot of Mount Pelée. Founded in 1651 under the initiative of Jacques Duparquet, the first governor of the island of Martinique, this distillery embodies the authenticity and ancestral know-how of Martinique. Clos des Spiritueux is proud to present this exceptional rum, made famous thanks to Victor Depaz. Heir to a family passionate about agricultural rum production, Victor was the sole survivor of the dramatic 1902 eruption that devastated the region. Then a student in Bordeaux, he returned fifteen years later to revive the Habitation Périnelle, a symbol of resilience and tradition, faithfully rebuilding the estate of his childhood.
The international renown of Depaz rums is explained by the uniqueness of their volcanic terroir, combining fertile soil and remarkably pure water, essential elements for the aromatic richness of their sugar canes. Maintaining artisanal methods, the distillery is one of the smallest and most authentic in Martinique, its beating heart still powered by a vintage steam engine, a true industrial and heritage legacy.
This old agricultural plantation rum rests on a careful aging of 3 years in small oak barrels, giving this spirit a rich and complex aromatic palette. The woody notes elegantly intertwine with fruity and spicy flavors, offering a tasting of remarkable finesse. This excellence earned it a prestigious gold medal at the Paris General Agricultural Competition in 2018, a guarantee of quality and authenticity.
