The Torabhaig Distillery is ideally located in the picturesque village of Teangue, on the famous Sound of Sleat of the Isle of Skye, in Scotland. Founded in January 2017 by the Mossburn Distillers group, it represents a new era of Scottish distilleries, being the second on this island renowned for its exceptional whiskies. Nestled in a 19th<\/sup>-century farm, once abandoned, the distillery underwent a meticulous four-year renovation. Its equipment includes a mash tun capable of processing 1.5 tons of malt and eight Douglas fir fermentation tanks, selected for their optimal quality. Two copper pot stills, named Sir Iain and Lady Noble, produce one of the most phenol-rich peated distillates in Scotland. The dedicated team, composed of nine passionate distillers, many of whom are emerging talents, oversees a production marked by innovation. The whiskies are exclusively aged in oak casks, mainly first-fill American bourbon barrels, complemented by sherry hogsheads, new French oak casks, and several other carefully selected types.
Each edition of the Legacy series reveals a unique perspective on the innovative whisky of the Isle of Skye. The Sound of Sleat is made from malted barley varieties Concerto and Laureate, fermented for 72 hours with Pinnacle MG yeast, ensuring controlled and expressive fermentation. This single malt is exclusively matured in first-fill American oak (Quercus Alba) casks, which gives it unmatched complexity and aromatic depth.
