AUCHENTOSHAN - American Oak - 40%
The Auchentoshan distillery is an iconic player in whisky production in the Scottish Lowlands, known for being one of the few distilleries in Scotland to master triple distillation, thus ensuring exceptional finesse and purity in its single malts.
Founded in 1817, Auchentoshan's history began when John Bulloch built the Lowland Duntocher distillery on the picturesque banks of the River Clyde. Despite a difficult start marked by a quick bankruptcy, the distillery changed hands and was acquired by John Hart and Alexander Filshie, who gave it its historic name, Auchentoshan. The distillery has endured major challenges, notably during World War II during the Clyde Blitz of 1941, which caused heavy damage, including the destruction of a warehouse and the spectacular loss of flaming whisky in the river. Today, this prestigious distillery belongs to the global group Beam Suntory, ensuring international renown and consistent quality.
The Scottish single malt whisky Auchentoshan is made from carefully selected unpeated malted barley. Fermentation takes place in Oregon pine washbacks, a traditional material that contributes to aromatic complexity. Distillation is carried out three times, a rare process that gives the whisky great smoothness and remarkable purity, before aging slowly in carefully chosen oak casks to enhance its aromas.
The Auchentoshan American Oak stands out for its full maturation in first-fill American oak casks, offering a flavor profile rich in vanilla and sweet notes, a true expression of the characteristic softness of the Lowlands. This single malt is ideal for enthusiasts seeking a balanced, smooth, and refined whisky.
