GLENGOYNE - 10 years - 40% ABV
The Glengoyne distillery, a true gem nestled in the southern Scottish Highlands, is ideally located at the foot of the iconic volcanic hill Dumgoyne, offering a spectacular view visible from Glasgow.
Founded in 1820 at Burnfoot Farm as a clandestine distillery, Glengoyne developed in a sheltered valley, hidden from tax authorities, with a hidden waterfall that still feeds its traditional processes today. Officially licensed in 1833 under the name Glenguin of Burnfoot, a name kept until 1907, the distillery was rebuilt in 1966, tripling its capacity to meet the growing demand from whisky enthusiasts. In 2003, it became part of the Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd group, after previously belonging to the Edrington group.
Characterized by peat-free soil around the farm, Glengoyne uses only local fuel to dry its barley, which gives its whisky a unique, non-peated style appreciated by connoisseurs. The extended fermentation of the wort brings refined notes of hazelnut, while its pot stills, slowly heated at low temperature and reputed to be the slowest in Scotland, allow the extraction of exceptional sweetness and lightness from the malt.
The distillery also innovated as early as 1870 with the use of Sherry casks, taking advantage of the rise of this industry. Initially an economic strategy to reduce costs, aging in Sherry casks has become a distinctive signature of the rich and complex character of Glengoyne whiskies.
The Glengoyne 10 years stands out for its spicy and soft aromatic profile, enhanced by a pronounced Sherry cask influence, offering a rich, balanced, and elegant tasting experience, ideal for whisky lovers seeking quality and authenticity.
