CARONI 23 years - Exceptional Aged Rum - Vintage 1996 - HTR Blend Assembly - The Last - 61.90%
The famous Caroni distillery, established in 1918 in the iconic state of Trinidad & Tobago, is renowned for the exceptional quality of its rare and unique rums. As a state-owned distillery, it had its own sugar mill, ensuring an optimal supply of raw materials, with high-quality sugarcane grown on site. Equipped with a variety of equipment including column and pot stills, this legendary distillery remained a well-kept secret for a long time, shrouded in mystery. Indeed, few of their rums were marketed under their own label, giving their spirits a unique aromatic profile characterized by powerful notes of hydrocarbons, sweet spices, and honey. Following the closure of the distillery in 2002, decided by the government due to a major crisis in the sugar industry, the rarity of these exceptional rums increased significantly, elevating their spirits to the status of mythical icons sought after by enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
This prestigious Caroni rum was distilled in 1996 and bottled in 2019. Its maturation began in the warehouses of Trinidad, where it aged until 2008, before being transferred to Guyana. There it was carefully blended in 24 different barrels within the warehouses of the DDL (Demerara) distillery, benefiting from a second aging period of an additional 11 years. This rum takes its iconic name "The Last" in reference to this 39th edition, which also represents the last bottling (the last) from the immense stock discovered in December 2004 of the original Caroni barrels. True to this ultimate requirement, the bottling was done at cask strength (full proof) at 61.90%, to fully preserve the authentic and intense expression of this exceptional rum, a true gem for discerning connoisseurs.
