The prestigious rum brand The Real McCoy produces exceptional Single Blended rums in Barbados, in the heart of the Caribbean. Its fascinating history begins in January 1920 with Bill McCoy, a true rum pioneer during the Prohibition era. He was the first to load a boat with pure alcohol directly in the Caribbean, sailing it to New York, where he legally operated as a floating liquor store located three miles off the coast. Bill McCoy's fame rests on his integrity: he never adulterated his alcohol, thus guaranteeing rum of unparalleled purity.
The brand's founder, Bailey Pryor, was inspired to create The Real McCoy Rum while producing a documentary film about Bill McCoy for American public television. During his research, Bailey traveled to the paradisiacal island of Barbados, where he met Richard Seale, a fourth-generation master distiller and heir to the famous family distillery Foursquare. This meeting gave birth to a unique range of handcrafted rums, produced in small batches, combining tradition and innovation. These rums are distilled using a refined combination of copper pot stills and column stills, then aged for a long time in American oak ex-Bourbon barrels, giving each bottle a rich, complex, and balanced character.
