EL DORADO - 25 years old - Vintage 1992
El Dorado is an iconic reference produced by Demerara Distillers Limited within the prestigious Diamond Distillery, located in British Guiana. The fascinating history of rum in Guiana dates back to the 1640s, when sugarcane was introduced by the first European settlers, giving rise to an exceptional rum-making tradition. By 1670, the production of Demerara rum was firmly established, supported by the creation of distilleries in territories newly acquired by the British. Around 1780, more than 300 artisanal distilleries produced unique rums, each characterized by its own brand reflecting its distinct origins (SWR, ICBU, PM, EHP, LBI, AN).
During the 19th century, colonial rums, mostly from British blends, gained popularity, notably with the creation of the first Old Vatted Demerara (OVD), made primarily from the exceptional rum of the Port Mourant distillery. The 20th century was marked by profound economic transformations in the sugar industry, with a sharp drop in sugar prices and the imposition of heavy taxes, causing drastic consolidation of the sector. By 1942, only nine distilleries remained active. Today, the El Dorado range stands out with a unique and prestigious collection of aged rums, while the distillery continues the tradition by still using the original historic stills from the great sugar plantations of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Ambient temperature aging in exceptional tropical climatic conditions plays a crucial role in giving the rum its characteristic smoothness and rich, complex aromatic profile.
El Dorado 25 Years - Vintage 1992 was specially crafted to celebrate the turn of the new millennium. This rare rum offers a silky smoothness that rivals the finest old cognacs. The constant warmth of Guiana and the tropical climate significantly accelerate maturation, intensifying the concentration of aromas and depth of flavor.
