The prestigious rum brand The Real McCoy produces exceptional Single Blended rums in Barbados, renowned for its traditional expertise. Its authentic story begins in January 1920 with Bill McCoy, an iconic figure and pioneer of rum during the American Prohibition era. Famous for his strictness, Bill McCoy was the first to load a ship with alcohol in the Caribbean, sail it to New York, and legally operate as a floating liquor store located three miles offshore. His reputation is based on absolute integrity, as he never adulterated his products, thus guaranteeing impeccable quality.
The visionary founder of the brand, Bailey Pryor, had the idea to create The Real McCoy Rum while making a documentary film for public television in the United States, recounting the life and exploits of Bill McCoy. During his research, Bailey traveled to the Caribbean island of Barbados, where he met Richard Seale, a fourth-generation master distiller at the famous family-owned Foursquare distillery. Together, they developed an exclusive range of small-batch craft rums, distilled with perfect mastery through a unique combination of traditional copper pot stills and modern column stills. These rums then undergo careful aging in American oak ex-Bourbon barrels, giving them rich and complex aromas, characteristic of this exceptional production.
