The renowned Caroni distillery, founded in 1918 in the iconic state of Trinidad (Trinidad and Tobago), is a gem in the world of rum. A state-owned distillery, it benefits from an integrated sugar mill ensuring a constant supply of exceptional sugarcane, locally cultivated with traditional expertise. Equipped with unique apparatus including different types of stills – column and pot stills – Caroni long cultivated a mystical secret around its exceptional rums. Very few of its spirits were bottled under its own label, fostering a rarity that gives its creations legendary prestige. Its complex aromatic profile captivates with unique notes blending hydrocarbon fragrances, soft spices, and delicate honey accords. Following a major crisis in the sugar industry, the distillery sadly closed its doors in 2002, allowing these rare rums to become true cult objects sought after by collectors and discerning enthusiasts.
This exceptional Caroni rum was distilled in 1996 and bottled in 2019, embodying a maturation of rare complexity. Initially aged until 2008 in the warehouses of Trinidad, it was then blended in 22 different casks in the prestigious warehouses of the DDL distillery (Demerara) in Guyana, where it benefited from an additional 11 years of refinement. Limited to only 1,536 bottles, this exclusive cuvée is the result of a passionate collaboration bringing together 23 expert tasters, under the direction of Luca Gargago. The photograph adorning this bottle celebrates this unique and unifying moment, a true tribute to the community of great Caroni enthusiasts who all contributed to the creation of this exceptional blend.
