AOC Martinique - Exceptional Agricultural Rum
The unique history of JM rums begins in the heart of lush vegetation, within one of the most beautiful distilleries located at Habitation Fonds-Préville, in Macouba, Martinique. The very first distillations were carried out in 1845 under the impetus of Jean-Marie Martin, whose initials "JM" forever mark this emblematic brand of Martinican agricultural rum. In the 1912s, the distillery passed into the hands of Ernest Crassous de Médeuil and his brother Gustave, managers and owners of the Bellevue estate. Following significant improvement works, the two estates merged to become Habitation Fonds-Préville, renowned for the exceptional quality of its rums. Today, the Bernard Hayot Group is the majority shareholder of SCA Héritiers Crassous de Médeuil, guaranteeing preserved know-how and authentic tradition.
The sugar canes are carefully cultivated on the vast Fonds-Préville estate, covering 225 hectares, to ensure optimal quality of the raw material. This exceptional terroir, located on the fertile slopes of Montagne Pelée, gives the canes a unique aromatic profile. The fermented juices are distilled in two traditional Creole copper columns, with a maximum strength of 72°, which allows preserving all the aromatic authenticity and natural richness of the sugar cane. Moreover, the distillery is supplied by the crystalline waters of the natural springs of Montagne Pelée, contributing to the purity and finesse of the rum.
The Cuvée 1845 JM is a vibrant tribute to a heritage of nearly 170 years of ancestral traditions. This exceptional cuvée is the result of a long and patient aging, combining different eaux-de-vie aged at least 10 years in old 200-liter oak barrels. The meticulous blending gives birth to a rum with a unique character, revealing complex aromas of delicate spices enhanced by subtle vanilla notes, delighting the most demanding palates.
