LA FAVORITE - Exceptional aged rum - Cuvée Privilège Lulu - 45%
La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries of Martinique, alongside Neisson. Founded in 1842 on the remains of the old Jambettes sugar factory, it took the name La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, Henri Dormoy acquired the property and transformed the sugar factory into a distillery with major technical improvements. Despite some interruptions related to the antics of Albert Dormoy, Henri's son, La Favorite ceased its activity around 1938 before being reborn in 1956 under the impetus of his younger brother André, who completely renovated it. Today, La Favorite cultivates about 60 hectares of sugar cane and also works with small local producers to ensure optimal quality. The distillery continues to operate thanks to an authentic steam engine dating from 1906, still in perfect working order. The vesou (cane wine), slowly fermented for up to 72 hours, is distilled through two Creole columns, one of copper dating from 1957, a guarantee of traditional know-how, and another more modern one from 1986.
The year 2018 marks a major milestone for La Favorite, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Lulu. Lucienne Dormoy, nicknamed Lulu by those close to her, wife of André Dormoy, is an iconic figure who contributed to the renown of this family distillery. Parents of the current owners, they established La Favorite as a gem of Martinican rums. In tribute to Lulu, a special cuvée composed of a unique blend of 5 vintages, aged from 10 to 20 years, was created: the Privilège à Lulu cuvée. This limited edition is produced in only 4500 copies, making this rum a true treasure for enthusiasts and collectors.
