RHUM HSE - Exceptional Very Old Rum - Porto Finish - Vintage 2009 - 42%
The La Maugée estate, renamed Saint-Étienne in 1863, is a historic gem of Martinique that has evolved over time. Originally a sugar factory, it became a distillery after its acquisition by Amédée Aubery in 1882. This visionary industrialist modernized the facilities and utilized the hydraulic energy of the Lézarde river, which still runs through the estate and is used to dilute cane juices. In 1994, the Hayot family (Yves and José) took over the property following the judicial recovery of the previous owners, initiating a deep renovation of this Martinican estate classified as a Historic Monument. The distillation column was transferred to Simon, and the iconic Saint-Étienne brand became HSE, an acronym for Habitation Saint-Étienne, synonymous with excellence in the world of rare rums.
This HSE Porto Finish vintage 2009 rum is an integral part of the prestigious collection of extra old rums "Les Finitions du Monde," a range that celebrates the art of aging through barrels selected from the best international wines and spirits. This innovative approach, combining tradition and boldness, gives each edition a unique identity and exceptional aromatic richness, unanimously praised by connoisseurs and discerning enthusiasts.
Produced through a traditional aging of 5 years in American oak barrels from Kentucky and Missouri, this rum then benefited from an exceptional 12-month finish in ex-Porto barrels of 225 and 500 liters. This double maturation imparts a rare aromatic complexity, marked by intense and refined notes, offering an unforgettable tasting experience. A true treasure of Martinique, combining authenticity and originality, to be discovered without delay.
