The Springbank distillery is one of the last two distilleries still operating in the iconic Campbeltown region, located on the Kintyre peninsula in the southwest of Scotland. Renowned for its traditional craftsmanship, it produces Single Malt whiskies under three distinct brands, each offering a unique style: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn. Founded in 1828 by brothers Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, Springbank is the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown. Since 1934, only Springbank and Glen Scotia remain in this historic region. Fascinatingly, the estate remains exclusively owned by the direct descendants of the Mitchell founders, ensuring a family heritage and uncompromising quality. The distillery is one of the few in Scotland to master its entire production on site, from traditional barley malting to final bottling, allowing optimal quality control and preserved authenticity. This rigorous control of manufacturing processes enables the offering of three perfectly differentiated whisky styles, where the careful selection of casks and the local terroir play an essential role. The parent company, JA Mitchell & Sons, also revived the Glengyle distillery in 2004, where Single Malts are produced under the Kilkerran brand. Additionally, the renowned independent bottler Cadenhead's is also part of the group.
Springbank whiskies are distinguished by a blend of malts dried both with peat and in open air, offering a subtle balance between smoky and fruity. Their distillation is carried out using a unique method in Scotland, with a double and a half distillation, giving the whisky remarkable richness and complexity — compared to more traditional distillations: three times for Hazelburn and twice for Longrow.
