Gwalarn - Celtic Whisky Blend - 40%
Celtic Whisky Distillerie is located in Pleubian, in the department of Côtes d’Armor in Brittany, a region renowned for its exceptional artisanal traditions. Founded in 1997 by Martine and Jean Donnay, this distillery is a true pioneer of quality French whisky. It stands out for its unique and traditional manufacturing methods, including open flame heating, slow and controlled distillation, as well as the use of traditional equipment such as two small pot stills and old wooden fermenters. Moreover, aging by the seaside imparts an exceptional aromatic complexity to its whiskies, shaped by the sea air and Breton spray. In 2020, Maison Villevert – a major player in premium French spirits based in the Cognac region – acquired Celtic Whisky Distillerie, thereby strengthening its commitment to excellence and authenticity in French spirits.
The first emblematic Single Malt from Celtic Whisky Distillerie is called Glann ar Mor, a Breton term meaning "Seaside," perfectly illustrating the maritime influence on this exceptional whisky. The second Single Malt, Kornog, is characterized by its heavily peated profile, reminiscent of the prestigious whiskies from the Scottish island of Islay. As for Gwalarn, it is the distillery's signature blend, the result of meticulous blending expertise.
Gwalarn means "the northwest wind" in Breton. This unique blend is the result of a subtle marriage between different Celtic origins: the complexity and authenticity of a Scottish whisky, the deep character of a German whisky, and the elegant finesse of a French whisky, offering a rich and balanced sensory experience.
