ABERLOUR - 18 years old - Double Sherry Cask Finish - 43%
Aberlour Distillery is located in the heart of Speyside, Scotland, in the eponymous village whose Gaelic name means "mouth of the babbling brook." Founded in 1879 by James Fleming, it was established near a pure water spring flowing over the pink granite of Ben Rinnes, a guarantee of consistency and aromatic precision. Ravaged by fire in 1898, Aberlour was rebuilt by the renowned architect Charles Doig. Gradual modernization led to a doubling of capacity in 1974, from two to four stills. Since 1975, the house has been owned by Pernod Ricard and operated within its subsidiary Chivas Brothers.
Today, the four stills produce approximately 3,500,000 liters per year. During distillation, the distiller carefully separates the "head," the "heart," and the "tail": only the heart, clear and delicately aromatic, is retained to become the New Make, which will be sent to the casks. The head and tail fractions are redistilled, guaranteeing purity, balance, and house style. This rigorous blend, combined with the quality of the water and the slow maturation process, forges the silky, indulgent character of Aberlour Single Malt.
Aberlour 18 Year Old follows this tradition with a double maturation in Oloroso Sherry and Pedro Ximénez casks. This long aging brings a richness of dried fruits (fig, date, raisin), candied orange and toffee, underlined by sweet spices and a touch of chocolate. The palate unfolds broadly and harmoniously, carried by a light and elegant oakiness , where vanilla, walnut and cinnamon intertwine with a malty structure. Long, warm and perfectly melted finish, signature of a generous and distinguished Speyside. A benchmark Single Malt for Aberlour lovers in search of depth, complexity and a perfectly integrated sherry sweetness.
