OLD PULTENEY - 13 years old - Vintage 2010 - Sherry Single Cask - 64.20%
The prestigious Old Pulteney Distillery is nestled in the iconic Pulteneytown region, at the heart of the picturesque fishing village of Wick, in the majestic Highlands of Scotland. Recognized as one of the northernmost distilleries on the Scottish mainland, it benefits from a unique terroir that gives its whiskies an incomparable authenticity. Founded in 1826 by the visionary gentleman distiller James Henderson, Old Pulteney capitalized on the commercial potential of this developing town at the time. For many years, the distillery was accessible only by sea, importing carefully selected barley and exporting its precious whiskies worldwide. Marked by major historical events, including a hiatus between 1930 and 1951 due to the global financial crisis and Prohibition, it was reborn in 1958 with renewed strength. The site still uses an iconic water mill designed by the legendary engineer Thomas Telford, which once powered a barley mill. Connected to Loch Hempriggs located just 3 kilometers inland, this traditional system contributes to the exceptional quality of the malt. The malt, rigorously selected from different regions of the UK, is unpeated, ensuring exceptional aromatic purity. Maturation is carried out in a skillful balance between American oak casks and Spanish ex-Sherry casks, bringing richness and complexity to the aromatic profile. The distillery belongs to Inver House Distillers, the Scotch Whisky division of the International Beverage group based in Thailand, which also owns renowned brands such as Balblair, Knockdhu, Speyburn, and Balmenach.
This exclusive and rare edition, specially crafted for the French market, was distilled in 2010 and aged for 13 years in a single cask (#1793), a process that guarantees a refined and unique expression of this exceptional whisky. Production was limited to only 624 bottles, making this release a treasure sought after by connoisseurs and lovers of rare and authentic spirits.
