PORT CHARLOTTE - Islay Barley - 2013 - 50%
The Bruichladdich Distillery is emblematic of the island of Islay in Scotland, globally recognized for its exceptional Single Malt whiskies. This prestigious distillery produces under three distinct labels: Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte, and Octomore. In parallel, it also crafts the famous The Botanist Gin, known for its unique botanical quality. Founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers, the distillery has a rich history marked by a fire in 1934 and numerous ownership changes before its closure in 1994. In 2000, a group of investors led by Mark Reynier of Murray McDavid, also the expert behind the famous Waterford whiskeys in Ireland, revived Bruichladdich. The distillery was completely dismantled and rebuilt while retaining its original Victorian equipment. Powered by gravity, it operates without computerized automated processes, ensuring a unique artisanal know-how. In 2012, the Rémy Cointreau group became the owner, strengthening the distillery's international reach. Bruichladdich places great importance on the local origin of the barley, a key element of the quality and authenticity of its whiskies.
Throughout its production, the Bruichladdich range is distinguished by its non-peated whiskies, while expressions with a pronounced peated character are marketed under the Port Charlotte label. Furthermore, the Octomore series is an exclusive collection of limited editions, renowned for having the highest peat levels ever achieved in a Single Malt.
Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2013 is an exceptional whisky made exclusively from Concerto barley, a variety grown locally on the island. The 2013 vintage harvest comes from 7 carefully selected agricultural partners on Islay: Hunter Jackson at Cruach, Ian McKerrell at Island Farm, Raymond Fletcher at Dunlossit estate, Donald and Andrew Jones at Coull, Mark French at Rockside, Alastair Torrance at Mulindry, and Raymond Stewart at Sunderland. This whisky was aged for 7 years in former American oak casks as well as in former prestigious wine casks (25%) from the renowned French wine region of Pessac-Léognan, adding finesse and aromatic complexity.
