SPRINGBANK - 21 years old - Vintage 2022 - 46% ABV
The Springbank Distillery, a historic jewel of Scotland, is one of the last two remaining craft distilleries still operating in the iconic Campbeltown region, located on the picturesque Kintyre peninsula in southwest Scotland. Renowned for its exceptional expertise, it passionately produces unique Single Malt whisky under three prestigious labels with distinctly different styles: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn.
Founded in 1828 by Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, Springbank was the 14th officially licensed distillery in Campbeltown. By 1934, only two distilleries remained: Springbank and Glen Scotia. The distillery remains today the property of the direct descendants of the founders, thus ensuring a generational transmission of a unique heritage. Springbank is one of the few Scottish distilleries to master the entire production process on-site, from traditional barley malting to bottling, ensuring consistent quality and perfect control at every stage.
This technical mastery allows the distillery to produce three distinct styles, all deeply influenced by the careful choice of cask type and the unique climatic conditions of the Campbeltown region. The parent company, JA Mitchell & Sons, also reopened the Glengyle distillery in 2004, where the Kilkerran Single Malt is produced. The group also includes the renowned independent bottler Cadenhead's.
Springbank whiskies are characterized by a fine blend of malts dried over peat and in open air, distilled using a unique process: two and a half distillations, contrasting with Hazelburn's three distillations and only two for Longrow, thus giving each expression its specific elegance and aromatic depth.
This remarkable Springbank 21 years old expression, released in 2022, has aged slowly and carefully in a skillfully balanced combination of Bourbon and Sherry casks, bringing richness, complexity, and beautiful aromatic depth.
