TOMATIN - 12 years - 125th Anniversary - 43% ABV
The Tomatin Distillery is one of the largest and most prestigious distilleries in Scotland, located in the heart of the majestic Highlands near Inverness. The name Tomatin means "hill of the juniper": this tree, whose wood burns without producing smoke, was long used by illicit distillers who had to keep their craft secret, especially during the Prohibition era. Tomatin's unique location, over 300 meters above sea level in the Monadhliath mountains, is no coincidence: this site once hosted a still where cattle herders would stop to fill their flasks. Officially founded in 1897, during the whisky market boom, the distillery benefited from a strategic location near a newly opened railway line, facilitating transport to the dynamic market and supply centers of Inverness, while enjoying pure water from the Highland streams. Despite its isolated location, Tomatin went through difficult periods, such as the 1900 crisis which led to bankruptcy in 1906 before a revival in 1909 under new management. The collapse in demand during the 1980s led to the distillery's liquidation, with many stills dismantled. Purchased two years later by the Japanese group Takara Shuzo Ltd and the distribution company Okura, Tomatin shifted towards a quality-focused strategy, developing its range of Single Malts and asserting its presence in the global market for exceptional whiskies.
The Tomatin 12 years old is carefully matured in a skillfully balanced combination of Bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, giving this Single Malt a unique aromatic complexity and subtle richness on the palate. June 8, 2022, marks the 125th anniversary of the distillery, celebrated with the launch of a collector's case specially designed for this exceptional edition, intended for connoisseurs and lovers of exceptional whisky.
