VELIER - Flora Antillarum - Montebello - 2002 - Single Cask - 19 years - 41.3%
Velier was founded in 1947 by Casimiro Chaix in Genoa, Italy. Alongside his partner Arturo Lupi, they created in 1953 a pioneering company for importing wines and spirits, distributing exceptional products such as champagne, grappa, as well as tea and cocoa. In 1983, Gian Luca Gargano, then marketing director of Spirit SpA, the largest Italian import company, joined Velier's capital. In 1985, Velier specialized in importing and distributing the finest spirits, mainly intended for excellent restaurants and wine bars. In 1988, Velier became the first Italian company to import New World wines, marking a major milestone in its development. From 1992, Velier began rigorously selecting unique casks of old Single Malts and exceptional rums under their own brand, which they progressively developed from 1995. In 2001, the collaboration with Damoiseau resulted in a first exclusive selection of rums offered by Velier. The Habitation Velier project, launched in 2015, symbolizes the meeting between Luca Gargano and the most renowned rum master distillers in the world. Each Pure Single rum produced under this range embodies a unique project with singular characteristics, constituting each time a true "world first" for each partner distillery.
This exceptional rum is a skillfully crafted blend of agricole rum and traditional rum, distilled at Montebello in February 2002, then carefully aged in 350-liter ex-Bourbon and ex-Cognac casks, which give it remarkable aromatic complexity. The production is limited to only 482 numbered bottles, guaranteeing the exclusivity and rarity of this exceptional vintage.
