TAKAMAKA - Grankaz - 45.10%
Takamaka is an iconic distillery located in La Plaine Saint-André, on the beautiful east coast of Mahé in the Seychelles. Founded in 1792 by the prestigious Jorre de Saint Jorre family, La Plaine Saint-André was originally a vast plantation estate surrounded by lush exotic gardens. At its peak, this estate covered more than 24 hectares and was a key pillar of the Seychellois agricultural economy in the early 20th century, passionately cultivating cinnamon, vanilla, coconut, and patchouli for export to Europe. Over the decades, La Plaine Saint-André has served various historical roles, ranging from a coconut mill to a national monument, a ship repair yard, a royal car garage, an innovative eco-museum, a friendly restaurant, and even a prestigious art gallery. Although it suffered a fire followed by reconstruction, the site was sometimes neglected due to financial constraints. However, in 2008, after four years of determined campaigning, the Distillerie Trois Frères secured a 50-year lease and devoted the following two years to a meticulous and passionate restoration of the estate, bringing this heritage and cultural gem back to life.
Grankaz is a traditional Seychellois cane rum, artisanally distilled in a pot still, offering unique richness and complexity. Aged in new French oak with medium toast, this rum is skillfully blended with a 3-year-old ex-Bourbon molasses rum and a precious 8-year-aged Bajan Foursquare molasses rum. This rare expression embodies the perfect union of local expertise and international influences, symbolizing the excellence and authenticity of tropical spirits.
