SPRINGBANK - 18 years old - Bottled in 2021 - 46% ABV
The Springbank Distillery is one of the few historic distilleries still operating in the iconic Campbeltown region, located on the Kintyre peninsula in the southwest of Scotland. Renowned for its authenticity and traditional craftsmanship, it produces exceptional Single Malt whiskies under three distinct brands with unique styles: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn. Founded in 1828 by brothers Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, Springbank was the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown. Since 1934, only two distilleries remain in this region, Springbank and Glen Scotia, which gives Springbank a major heritage status. The distillery is proudly owned by the direct descendants of the founders, thus ensuring the transmission of a century-old family legacy. Springbank is one of the few Scottish distilleries to fully control its production process on-site, from traditional barley malting to bottling, offering optimal quality control. This unique expertise allows the crafting of three distinct whisky styles, influenced by the meticulous choice of casks and the region's particular climate. The parent company, JA Mitchell & Sons, also revived the Glengyle distillery in 2004, where Single Malts are produced under the Kilkerran brand. The famous independent bottler Cadenhead's is also part of this prestigious group.
Springbank whiskies are distinguished by a unique maturation combining peated and air-dried malts. Their distillation is carefully carried out following three specific rhythms: two and a half times for Springbank, three times for Hazelburn, and twice for Longrow, which deeply influences their respective aromatic profiles.
This exceptional release, the Springbank 18 years old, bottled in 2021, reveals the complexity and richness of full maturation in Bourbon and Sherry casks, giving it rich, balanced, and deeply refined notes.
Intensely smoky, powerful, and elegant.
