Tatanka is an iconic artisanal company from Martinique, renowned for its exceptional hand-painted artworks on various media. Since 1996, a Martinican artist has been painting directly on glass in a unique and authentic naive art style. Each bottle depicts traditional life scenes from the Neisson distillery, paying a moving tribute to the passionate work of the men and women involved in crafting these exceptional rums. For each special Tatanka edition, three original and distinct illustrations are offered, making each bottle a rare and sought-after piece of art.
The Neisson Distillery, located in the heart of Carbet in Martinique, is a family heritage founded in 1932 by the Neisson brothers. Jean, a visionary chemical engineer, dedicated his life to perfecting traditional distillation techniques, laying the foundation for the international renown of Neisson rums. This passion has been carried on by his descendants, Claudine and then Grégory, who proudly uphold this expertise. The transition to rigorous organic farming began in 2013, culminating in 2016 with the release of the first organic AOC Martinique rum, an innovation praised by natural spirits enthusiasts. Today, over 40 hectares are cultivated according to these sustainable principles, with particular attention to the selection of exclusive indigenous yeasts derived from locally grown canes. This respect for biodiversity, the meticulous adaptation of crop varieties to each plot, optimal irrigation management to preserve water resources, as well as ecological treatment of effluents contribute to producing agricultural rums of exceptional quality, perfectly in harmony with the natural ecosystem of the Neisson lands.
