Glenburgie (also known as Glenburgie-Glenlivet, Glen Burgie or Glenburry) is an iconic distillery located near Alves, in the heart of the renowned Speyside region in Scotland. Founded in 1810 under the name "Kilnflat" by William Paul, Glenburgie has a rich and eventful history. After financial difficulties, it closed in 1870 before being renamed Glenburgie in 1871. The distillery reopened in 1878 under the direction of Charles Kay. Around 1880, it came under the ownership of Alex Fraser and Company and became a registered company in 1895. Despite liquidation in 1925 and a temporary closure between 1927 and 1935, it resumed operations, marked by the remarkable management of Margaret Nichol, the first female director of a whisky distillery. Acquired by Hiram Walker in 1936, Glenburgie innovated in 1958 with the installation of two Lomond stills, however abandoned in 1981 in favor of traditional stills. After a complete production halt in 2000, the distillery was entirely rebuilt between 2003 and 2004, retaining only its original stills. Today, it belongs to the Pernod Ricard group, and most of its production is used in the prestigious blends Ballantine's and Teacher's.
