Gordon & MacPhail is a renowned independent bottler of Scottish whisky, recognized for its exceptional quality and passion for traditional whisky. As the historic owner of the Benromach distillery, this iconic house offers an extremely diverse range of bottlings from Scotland's most prestigious distilleries. Founded in 1895 in Elgin, in northeast Scotland, originally as a grocer and wine and spirits merchant, Gordon & MacPhail grew thanks to the visionary input of John Urquhart, who took the reins in 1915 as a former apprentice. More than a century later, Gordon & MacPhail maintains its independence as a family business, guaranteeing unique expertise and a rigorous selection for whisky lovers worldwide.
The Ardmore distillery, nestled in Aberdeenshire in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, has a rich history since its construction in 1898 by Adam Teacher, son of the famous William Teacher. Designed to supply whisky for the famous blended brand Teacher's Highland Cream, Ardmore is known for its peaty character and traditional methods. The site expanded with the addition of two stills in 1955 and four more in 1974, bringing the total to eight stills. Historically, the distillery had its own maltings until the mid-1970s, as well as a cooperage until the late 1980s. Until 2001, Ardmore still used coal to heat its stills, illustrating the preservation of ancestral techniques. Today, it is owned and operated by Beam Suntory, a Japanese subsidiary renowned for its quality standards, affiliated with Suntory Holdings of Osaka.
