PORT CHARLOTTE - PAC.01 2011 - Bottled in 2021 - 56.1%
The Bruichladdich Distillery, iconic and nestled on the Isle of Islay in Scotland, is globally renowned for the quality of its Single Malt whiskies. It markets three distinctive labels: Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte, and Octomore. In addition to its whiskies, this distillery also produces the renowned The Botanist Gin. Founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers, Bruichladdich has endured through the ages with passion and resilience. After family tensions, William Harvey took over management until the dramatic fire of 1934 and his passing in 1936. The distillery then passed through several owners before closing in 1994. In 2000, a group of investors led by Mark Reynier (also famous for Waterford whiskey in Ireland) purchased Bruichladdich, undertaking a complete dismantling and reconstruction while preserving the original Victorian equipment. Innovative and authentic, the distillery operates by gravity and without computer control. In 2012, it joined the prestigious Rémy Cointreau group. Bruichladdich places great emphasis on highlighting the local origin of its barley, a key element of its identity and marketing strategy.
The Bruichladdich range is characterized by non-peated whiskies, while heavily peated expressions are exclusively marketed under the Port Charlotte brand. The Octomore series is famous for its ultra-limited editions with the highest peat levels among all Single Malts worldwide.
The Port Charlotte PAC: 01 is part of the distillery's exclusive "Cask Exploration" series, designed to reveal the unique influence of casks on heavily peated and powerful spirits. This limited edition, distilled in November 2011 from Concerto barley grown on Islay, comes from two distinct batches of heavily peated Port Charlotte spirits. The first batch was aged for 6 years in first-fill American oak casks, then finished for 2 years in casks that previously held Pauillac red wine, a prestigious French Bordeaux appellation. The second batch underwent 7 years maturation in first-fill American oak casks, followed by an extended finishing period in second-fill casks that also contained Pauillac red wine.
