La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries of Martinique, alongside Neisson, recognized for its traditional expertise and commitment to quality. Founded in 1842, it was established on the historic remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, before being renamed La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, thanks to the acquisition by Henri Dormoy, the transformation from sugar factory to distillery began with the integration of major technical improvements.
Despite interruptions related to the gambling passions of Albert Dormoy, Henri's son, which led to a halt in the 1938s, the distillery was revived under the impetus of André, Albert's younger brother, who fully resumed and modernized production in 1956. This rich history testifies to a deeply rooted Martinican heritage and tradition.
Today, La Favorite cultivates about 60 hectares of sugarcane with a strong commitment to terroir and sustainability. It also relies on a network of carefully selected small local producers, ensuring exceptional raw materials and optimal traceability. The distillery continues ancestral methods by still operating a historic steam engine, built in 1906, a symbol of a rare and precious industrial heritage.
The vesou (cane juice) is obtained by long fermentation of the cane juice, which can last up to 72 hours, before being distilled in two Creole columns. One, entirely made of copper and operational since 1957, and the other, a modern column dating from 1986, ensure perfect aromatic control and a unique organoleptic finesse.
The rum La Favorite Rivière Bel’Air 2020 is the 5th edition of this exceptional single-varietal white rum. Made exclusively from the 2020 harvest on the highly reputed Rivière Bel’Air plot, it benefits from a long fermentation, followed by continuous distillation, careful reduction, and slow, controlled stirring. This process guarantees a pure expression of sugarcane, enhanced by a bright freshness and delicate, exalted notes of fresh citrus.
