LONGROW - 18 years old - Bottled in the 2000s - 46% ABV
The renowned Springbank Distillery remains one of the last two iconic distilleries in the historic Campbeltown region, nestled on the Kintyre peninsula in southwest Scotland. A true gem of Scottish whisky, it stands out for its artisanal and authentic production of unique Single Malts under three prestigious brands with varied flavor profiles: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn. Founded in 1828 by visionaries Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, Springbank was the 14th distillery officially licensed in Campbeltown. During the 1930s, when the region had only two active distilleries left, Springbank and Glen Scotia, it managed to preserve its heritage and remains today owned by the direct descendants of its founders. The distillery is recognized as one of the few in Scotland to fully control its manufacturing process on-site: from traditional barley malting to final bottling. This rigorous control allows it to produce three distinct whisky styles, each shaped by the careful selection of casks and the unique influence of the local climate. Furthermore, the parent company, JA Mitchell & Sons, relaunched the Glengyle distillery in 2004, where Single Malts are produced under the Kilkerran label. The group also includes the renowned independent bottler Cadenhead's, a guarantee of quality and passion for whisky.
The highly peated Single Malts are offered under the Longrow signature, a bold range. The first Longrow releases, distilled from 1973, aimed to demonstrate that it was possible to create peated Single Malts comparable to those from the island of Islay but produced on the Scottish mainland.
This exceptional expression of Longrow is distilled using the traditional double distillation method, then patiently aged for 18 years in a refined blend of 60% second-fill ex-Sherry casks and 40% first-fill ex-Bourbon casks. This rare edition, highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors, was bottled in the 2000s at 46% alcohol by volume. A true gem for lovers of peated and complex whiskies.
