CARONI - Guyana Stock - 1994/2017 - Double Maturation - 23 years - Magnum 1.5 liters - 59%
Founded in 1923 in Trinidad & Tobago on the historic site of the former Caroni sugar factory, this iconic distillery used both traditional copper pot stills and modern distillation columns. Caroni quickly stood out for its rums with very high alcohol content, notably intended for the British navy. Despite strong mobilization from enthusiasts and connoisseurs, the distillery was sold in 2001 by the Trinidad government to Angostura, before being permanently closed in 2002. However, in 2004, during a visit to Trinidad, Luca Gargano discovered a secret warehouse filled with original Caroni rum barrels in the abandoned distillery. These precious casks were acquired, bottled, and marketed, becoming today ultra-sought treasures by collectors and discerning enthusiasts, comparable in rarity and prestige to those of Karuizawa.
This exceptionally rare magnum (less than 10 units available) is a unique version of the Caroni 1994 Guyana Stock with Double Maturation. Distilled in 1994, this rum aged patiently in Trinidad and Tobago until 2008. Subsequently, the barrels were transferred to Guyana (British Guiana) at the Diamond distillery of DDL, where it continued its maturation until 2017. This exclusive magnum edition is enhanced by the delicate breath of Italian master glassmaker Massimo Lunardon, who shaped each bottle in just a few copies.
