ARDBEG - Scorch (without box) - 46%
Ardbeg is an iconic distillery located on the island of Islay, in Scotland, renowned worldwide for producing whiskies with intensely peated and unique flavors. This historic distillery, one of the oldest on the island, embodies the art of peated whisky with unparalleled aromatic depth. Ardbeg is also famous for innovating whisky aging on a cosmic scale: in 2011, it was the first to send part of its production to the International Space Station to study the effects of weightlessness on flavor development, marking a revolutionary milestone in whisky history.
Ardbeg's production on this site dates back to 1798, with the first commercial release in 1815, the same year as its renowned neighbor, Laphroaig. Quickly prized, its whisky greatly contributed to enriching blends before experiencing several ownership changes and financial difficulties from 1838 onwards, leading to its closure in 1981. The distillery partially reopened in 1989, before a full revival in 1997 thanks to its acquisition by the Glenmorangie group, itself part of the prestigious French luxury group LVMH. Today, Ardbeg is a global reference whose production combines artisanal tradition and constant innovation.
Ardbeg's two traditional stills produce about one million liters of alcohol each year, exclusively available as Single Malt. Aging is mainly done in American Bourbon barrels, complemented by maturation in Sherry casks that add complexity and richness. Characterized by powerful peat exceeding 50-55 ppm, Ardbeg whisky stands out by a subtle balance between smoky, spicy notes and a slight sweetness, while maintaining a maritime freshness typical of Islay, but without the iodine acidity present in some of its neighbors.
Scorch is an exclusive limited edition created to celebrate the traditional "Ardbeg Day" in 2021. This whisky pays tribute to the legendary dragon blowing the intense flavors of Islay, with a special maturation in American oak ex-Bourbon barrels specially heated at high temperature to release very powerful smoky and woody aromas. The result is a whisky as bold as it is refined, reserved for lovers of strong sensations and marked character.
