The international renown of the Caroni Distillery traces back to 1918, in the heart of the island state of Trinidad & Tobago. This iconic state-owned distillery relies on its own sugar mill, ensuring an optimal supply of raw materials, namely exceptional sugarcane grown locally and recognized for its high quality. Exceptionally well-equipped, Caroni uses various styles of stills, including column and pot stills, which give its rums a unique profile. This legendary distillery has long cultivated a certain mystery, as few of its rums have been marketed under its own label, making its products rare and desirable today.
Caroni rums are distinguished by a singular aromatic character, marked by intense notes of hydrocarbons, mild spices, and honey, forming a complex and fascinating nose that captivates connoisseurs. Unfortunately, the closure of the distillery in 2002, due to the deep crisis in the local sugar industry, has made these rums even rarer and more precious. This exceptional vintage was distilled in 1996 at the Caroni distillery in Trinidad. The 17-year aging took place entirely within the distillery, ensuring perfect maturation and complex aromatic development.
