BALBLAIR - 1978 - Unfiltered Cold - 46%
The Balblair Distillery is ideally located in Edderton, in the beautiful Ross-shire region of Scotland. Founded in 1790 by the visionary John Ross, it has preserved an exceptional heritage passed on to his son Andrew in 1824. Remaining in the Ross family until 1894, the distillery was then taken over by Alexander Cowan. In 1895, the distillery was completely rebuilt by the famous architect Charles C. Doig to be closer to Edderton station, located on the Inverness/Ross-shire railway line. Despite this relocation, the quality of the original water source – the Ault Dearg stream – was so exceptional that Balblair chose to continue sourcing from this pure and unique spring, thus guaranteeing the finesse of its whiskies. Even today, the Balblair distillery continues this tradition by exclusively using this remarkably pure water. In 1948, the property was acquired by Robert Cumming, who significantly modernized the facilities and increased production capacity, thus ensuring the brand's prominence. After his retirement in 1970, it was sold to Hiram Walker. Since 1996, Balblair has belonged to the Inver House Distillers Limited group, which continues to promote this prestigious brand. Historically recognized for its vintage whiskies, the Balblair range has evolved since April 2019 to now favor expressions explicitly mentioning age, in order to meet the expectations of the most demanding enthusiasts.
