The Torabhaig Distillery is located in the charming village of Teangue, nestled on the Sound of Sleat of the majestic Isle of Skye, in Scotland. Founded by Mossburn Distillers in January 2017, it is one of the newest and most innovative distilleries in the country, while being the second major facility on this island renowned for its whiskies. This unique distillery is housed in a former 19th-century farmstead, once abandoned, located near the Allt Gleann stream, carefully restored over 4 years to combine tradition and modernity. The mash tun, capable of mashing up to 1.5 tonnes of malt, and eight Douglas fir fermentation vessels have been installed to ensure optimal quality. Two copper pot stills, named Sir Iain and Lady Noble, shape a peated distillate, recognized as one of the most phenolic in Scotland. This artisanal production is carried out by a dedicated team of nine local distillers, passionate and often new to the industry, bringing fresh enthusiasm and expertise. The spirits produced are then aged mainly in oak barrels that previously held bourbon, with occasional maturation in sherry hogsheads, French virgin oak casks, as well as various other types of casks, giving the whisky a unique complexity and richness.
The Legacy Series 2017 represents the first iconic batch of the distillery, launched in February 2021 and limited to only 100 casks, making it a highly sought-after rarity among collectors and connoisseurs. This exceptional Single Malt was distilled in 2017 and finished in ex-bourbon casks, developing an intensely peated and iodine-rich aromatic profile, a sought-after and distinctive characteristic evoking the maritime sensations of the region.
