KILKERRAN - 8 years old - Oloroso Cask Strength - 57.1%
The Springbank Distillery is one of the last two authentic distilleries still operating in the historic Campbeltown region, located on the Kintyre peninsula in the southwest of Scotland. Renowned for its artisanal expertise, it produces exceptional Single Malt whisky under three iconic brands with distinct styles: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn. Founded in 1828 by brothers Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, Springbank became the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown. By 1934, only Springbank and Glen Scotia remained, making Springbank a true treasure of Scottish heritage. Still owned by the direct descendants of the founders, the distillery stands out for its complete mastery of the production process, ensuring on-site traditional barley malting, distillation, and bottling. This rigorous control guarantees unique quality and allows the creation of three whisky styles influenced by the meticulous choice of casks and the region's particular climate. The parent company, JA Mitchell & Sons, also revived the Glengyle distillery in 2004, where Single Malts are produced under the Kilkerran brand. The group also includes the renowned independent bottler Cadenhead's, known for its rare and prestigious selections.
This remarkable expression, the Kilkerran 8 years old, was launched in 2019. It benefits from full maturation in re-toasted Oloroso sherry casks, which gives this whisky an intense aromatic complexity and rich, voluptuous notes of dried fruits, oriental spices, and caramel. This exclusive finish highlights the power of the cask strength at 57.1% while maintaining the balance and finesse characteristic of Campbeltown single malts.
