In 2020, the Artist series celebrates its 10 years of excellence with a special edition bringing together the most emblematic distilleries of Scottish whisky. The visual identity of this prestigious collection is signed by Sei Arimori, a graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts, famous for his abstract works combining the ancient technique of egg tempera with the delicate application of gold and silver leaf, bringing refined aesthetics to each bottle.
The Bunnahabhain Distillery is located on the mythical island of Islay (pronounced "Ayla") in Scotland, a region renowned for its unique terroir and ancestral know-how. Founded in 1881 by William Robertson in collaboration with William and James Greenlees, this distillery has upheld a tradition of excellence for over a century. By 1883, Bunnahabhain had built a solid reputation, strengthened in the 1960s with the doubling of its stills to meet growing demand. Despite a temporary halt in the 1980s due to a market contraction, production quickly resumed, ensuring the brand's continuity. Acquired by the Distell group in 2013, Bunnahabhain prides itself on producing its Single Malts from lightly peated malted barley combined with pure spring water from "Margadale." Fermentation takes place in Oregon pine vats, guaranteeing authentic aromas. True to its identity, Bunnahabhain refuses any chill filtration, preserving the natural richness and aromatic depth of its whiskies. Unlike other Islay Single Malts, Bunnahabhain whiskies are characterized by subtle peat and delicate smoke, bringing a unique elegance to each expression.
This emblematic Bunnahabhain bottling was distilled in 2009 and patiently aged in a Sherry cask, imparting rich, fruity, and spicy notes to the whisky. This Single Cask (#900086) benefited from over 10 years of maturation, delivering exceptional intensity with a remarkable alcohol strength of 67.1%. In total, only 589 bottles were produced, making this vintage a precious rarity to discover.
Lightly peated (3 ppm) for a perfect balance between finesse and character.
