The famous Caroni distillery, emblematic of Trinidad and Tobago, was founded in 1918 in the state of Trinidad & Tobago. This state-owned distillery had its own sugar mill, ensuring a constant supply of high-quality raw materials from locally grown sugarcane. With a complete infrastructure including different types of stills, such as columns and pot stills, Caroni quickly became a legendary distillery, yet remained "secret" and "mystical" for a long time. Very few of its rums were bottled under its own label, which gives this production a unique and sought-after aura. Caroni spirits have an exceptional and inimitable aromatic profile, subtly blending notes of hydrocarbons, mild spices, and delicate hints of honey. In 2002, the distillery unfortunately closed due to the major crisis in the local sugar industry, which greatly increased the rarity and value of its rums, now legendary collector's items prized by enthusiasts and investors worldwide.
"Vijay," "Buju," and "Nitz" represent the three new "Employees" editions from the Caroni distillery for this 3rd consecutive year of release. The "Vijay" cuvée pays tribute to Vijay Ranmarine, who dedicated 23 years of his career to this iconic distillery. The rums contained in this bottle were distilled in 1996. It is an exceptional blend of four casks aged 24 years, retaining a powerful natural strength of 64.50%.
