La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries of Martinique, alongside Neisson. Founded in 1842 on the remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it took the name La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, Henri Dormoy acquired the distillery and carried out major renovations, transforming a traditional sugar factory into a modern distillery. After a temporary suspension of its activities in the late 1930s, linked to the escapades of Albert Dormoy, a gambling enthusiast, La Favorite was reborn in 1956 under the impetus of his younger brother André, who completely renovated it to put it back into service.
Today, La Favorite passionately cultivates 60 hectares of sugarcane and also relies on the excellence of small local producers to guarantee authentic and sustainable quality. The distillery still operates thanks to an original steam engine from 1906, a living symbol of Martinican industrial heritage. The vesou, or cane wine, is extracted from the long-fermented cane juice – up to 72 hours – ensuring optimal aromatic richness. Distillation is carried out in two Creole columns: one entirely copper, in operation since 1957, and a more recent one dating from 1986.
La Favorite La Digue 2019 is the 2nd exclusive edition of this exceptional single-varietal white rum. This cuvée comes from 3 hectares of roseau cane from the La Digue plot, located just behind the distillery. It is crafted through a long fermentation, followed by continuous distillation in a copper column, then slow reduction, guaranteeing finesse and balance. This rum stands out for the natural freshness of the sugarcane, enhanced by delicate almond notes and an incomparable aromatic complexity, ideal for connoisseurs and lovers of exceptional rums.
