LA FAVORITE - Cuvée La Flibuste - Vintage 1995 - 40%
La Favorite is one of the last independent distilleries in Martinique, alongside Neisson, renowned for its ancestral expertise in agricole rum. Founded in 1842 on the remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it took the name La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, Henri Dormoy became its owner and made major improvements to transform the sugar factory into a modern distillery. Despite an interruption due to family issues in 1938, the distillery was revived in 1956 thanks to André Dormoy, who completely renovated it and restarted production with passion and respect for traditions.
Today, La Favorite cultivates sugarcane on 60 hectares and also sources from small local producers, thus enhancing the Martinican terroir. The distillery still operates entirely thanks to a historic steam engine built in 1906, a symbol of its authentic heritage. The vesou (cane juice) is obtained by long fermentation of the cane juice for up to 72 hours, then distilled in 2 Creole columns: a copper column dating from 1957, fully traditional, and a more modern column from 1986, ensuring exceptional quality.
The special cuvée La Flibuste is an aged agricole rum that has benefited from aging in Cognac oak barrels. This process gives the rum smooth tannins and a complex aromatic palette combining roasted notes, vanilla, candied fruits, and a slightly licorice finish. A limited edition from the 1995 vintage, this rare cuvée was produced in only 2000 bottles worldwide. In Europe, fewer than a hundred bottles are available, making this rum a true treasure for collectors and discerning enthusiasts.
