Neisson is an iconic distillery in Martinique, founded during the interwar period in 1931, when the brothers Adrien and Hildebert Pamphile, nicknamed Jean Neisson, acquired the La Thieulbert estate, which then covered 20 hectares of sugarcane plantations. Located in the northwest of the island, not far from Saint-Pierre and at the impressive foot of Mount Pelée, this estate benefits from an exceptional terroir for sugarcane cultivation. Adrien, the elder, set about creating a small distillery, while his younger brother, Jean Neisson, continued his studies in Paris.

While Adrien supervised the production of rums in Martinique with ancestral know-how, Jean simultaneously developed an import-export company in the French capital, aimed at promoting Neisson rums, recognized for their superior quality and authenticity. Passionate about distillation, Jean applied his acquired knowledge to have a Savalle column specially modified according to his instructions, thus optimizing the purity and finesse of the rums produced. Even today, the Neisson family runs this family distillery — one of the last still independent in Martinique — and exclusively cultivates sugarcane on its own 40 hectares, ensuring total control of the production process.

This Neisson 12 years Vintage 2005 is a rare and prestigious expression, bottled in a limited edition to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Maison Velier. From a harvest and distillation carried out in 2005, this rum was aged for 12 years before being bottled at its natural strength in 2017, at 51.3% alcohol. On tasting, it first reveals a warm and enveloping roundness, before opening up to an elegant aromatic bouquet marked by exotic and light notes, offering a tasting experience both rich and airy, typical of the best Martinican agricole rums.
