SAINT JAMES RUM - Aged Rum - Single Cask 1997 - 42.7% 1997
Saint-James began its remarkable story thanks to the visionary intervention of Reverend Edmond Lefebure, then the superior father at the Brothers of Charity convent and passionate about chemistry. Quickly, he perceived the exceptional potential of the spirits distilled near his hospital and decided to embark on their production himself. He thus created exceptional rums, proudly named under the prestigious name "Saint-James."
This 1997 vintage is the very first vintage produced in accordance with the strict specifications of the AOC Rhum Agricole, established in 1996. Remarkable Single Casks from the 1998 and 1999 vintages would also follow. This exceptional rum is the result of a close collaboration between Marc Sassier, a recognized oenologist, and Gilbert Bolinois, an experienced cellar master, both from the famous Sainte-Marie distillery.
It was carefully aged in small 200-liter oak barrels (Quercus Alba) from October 31, 1997, before being bottled on November 5, 2012. As its name indicates, this vintage comes from "a single cask," guaranteeing unique quality and authentic expression. A long, gradual reduction refined the aromatic richness and complexity of this rum while preserving its remarkable intensity, reaching the optimal commercial strength of 42.7°.
Sincerely, this is one of the finest vintages from the Saint-James house, alongside the 1998 vintage, which we particularly cherish. During an exclusive tasting at Clos des Spiritueux, all guests were captivated by the power and assertive character of this great agricultural rum. A true gem that is essential to have in any discerning collector's collection of this divine and emblematic drink :)
