LA FAVORITE - Aged Rum - Cuvée André DORMOY - Vintage 1999 - 43% ABV
La Favorite is one of the last iconic independent distilleries of Martinique alongside Neisson, recognized for its commitment to tradition and the superior quality of its rums. Founded in 1842 on the remains of an old sugar factory called Les Jambettes, it took the name La Favorite in 1851. In 1909, Henri Dormoy acquired the property and made major improvements, transforming the sugar factory into a modern distillery while preserving a unique artisanal know-how. Despite a halt in its activities in 1938 due to personal difficulties of Albert Dormoy, Henri's son, La Favorite was revived in 1956 thanks to his younger brother André Dormoy who completely renovated it.
Today, La Favorite cultivates sugarcane on nearly 60 hectares and also sources from small local producers, thus promoting sustainable Martinican agriculture. The distillery still operates thanks to a magnificent steam engine built in 1906, symbolizing a living industrial heritage and a production method respectful of traditions. The vesou (cane juice wine), obtained by a long fermentation of the cane juice lasting up to 72 hours, is distilled in two distinct Creole columns: one made entirely of copper operating since 1957 and the other more recent, dating from 1986, thus combining modernity and heritage.
This 1999 vintage rum - La Favorite's Cuvée André Dormoy is the result of a blend of exceptional eaux-de-vie aged for 17 years in carefully selected barrels. This cuvée carries a deeply symbolic meaning for Paul and Franck Dormoy, who pay tribute through this bottle to the family heritage and artisanal know-how passed down through generations. It is indeed the last harvest distilled by André Dormoy, a true icon of Martinican rum tradition. This aged rum captivates with its aromatic complexity, perfect balance between roundness and power, as well as refined notes of vanilla, precious woods, mild spices, and ripe fruits, making it an essential reference for discerning enthusiasts and collectors.
