BOWMORE - 12 years - Sherry Cask - 40%
Nestled on the Scottish island of Islay , Bowmore Distillery was founded in 1779 by local merchant John Simson. It then passed into the hands of the German-born Mutter family, who introduced several significant innovations, such as the use of their own steamship to ensure deliveries and supplies. In 1963, Bowmore became part of Morrison Bowmore Distillers , which became part of the Japanese group Suntory in 1994. The site also houses a heritage treasure: the legendary Vaults No. 1, the oldest working whisky ageing cellars in the world. Unusually, Bowmore still malts some of its barley on site, although some is also sourced from the mainland to meet demand.
This 12-year-old single malt has been matured in a combination of American oak Bourbon casks and Oloroso Sherry casks , giving it richness and complexity.
Peat
"The combination of Islay's typical peaty character and the generous sweetness of Sherry casks creates a beautiful balance: delicate smoke, aromas of dried fruits, cocoa and candied citrus are expressed with elegance."
