CARONI - Velier Paradise No.7 - Vintage 1994 - Guyana Heavy Trinidad - 58%
The famous Caroni Distillery was founded in 1918 in the state of Trinidad & Tobago (The Trinity), a terroir renowned for the exceptional quality of its sugarcane. This state-owned distillery had its own sugar mill, ensuring an optimal supply of top-quality raw materials from carefully cultivated local cane. Equipped with various sophisticated apparatus, including column and pot stills, this legendary distillery long maintained a fascinating mystery, as few of its rums were bottled under its own label. Its unique spirits are distinguished by a complex aromatic profile with powerful hydrocarbon notes, enriched by hints of sweet spices and honey. In 2002, faced with the deep crisis of the local sugar industry, the distillery was unfortunately forced to close, which greatly increased the rarity and prestige of its rums with an atypical character, now legendary among enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
Paradise #7 is the very first edition of an exclusive set of 23 casks selected as the best by The Tasting Gang, unveiled on April 12, 2019, among the last 136 Caroni casks available. After rigorous and comparative tasting, each exceptional cask was carefully decanted into two 54-liter demijohns, then stored at Caroni Paradise in Cognac for optimal aging. The iconic cask #6134 comes from a stock that, after distillation, remained carefully in Guyana until 2009, thus reinforcing its unique character and irreplaceable authenticity.
