The Foursquare Rum Distillery (as well as Heritage Park) is ideally located in the south of the splendid Barbados, the true cradle of rum tradition. It proudly belongs to the Seale family, which has accumulated over 5 generations of exceptional expertise and craftsmanship in artisanal rum production since 1820. Recognized as one of the oldest and most prestigious trading houses in Barbados, it embodies the authenticity and rich history of this iconic drink. At the time, Reginald Leon Seale faced strict excise duty legislation in Barbados, which prevented him, like other traders, from selling rum directly to consumers. His ingenious solution was to create a distribution company in Bridgetown in the early 1900s, thus giving birth to the iconic R. L. Seale brand. Between 1962 and 1993, the rum range expanded with the famous ESA Field and Alleyne Arthur rums, complemented by iconic references such as Old Brigand, Taylor's Falernum, and Doorly's. To better structure this range of brands, the strategy was clear: ESA Field and Old Brigand would remain destined for the local market, where they enjoyed solid notoriety, while Doorly was positioned as a flagship export product. In 1995, under the visionary leadership of Sir David Seale, the family acquired an old sugar factory whose oldest building dated back to 1636, then in a state of advanced dilapidation. This bold bet proved successful and gave birth to the famous Foursquare Distillery. Today, it is equipped with a sophisticated three-column still used for distilling lighter rums, as well as a modern copper pot still intended for producing complex and richly aromatic rums. All rums are produced from molasses fermented in small controlled batches (usually 112 barrels) and then aged in tropical conditions. Their maturation takes place in small American white oak barrels that previously held Bourbon, stored in large open-walled warehouses, most of which come from a renowned distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee, ensuring exceptional quality and typicity.
Raconteur is a unique and prestigious blend of rums aged in ex-Bourbon casks combined with a careful selection of rums benefiting from double maturation in ex-Bourbon and ex-Oloroso casks. These rums were carefully distilled in copper pot stills and double column stills, then patiently aged for 17 years, developing deep, complex aromas of rare finesse, perfect for high-end rum enthusiasts.
