SPRINGBANK - 10 years - Palo Cortado - 55%
The Springbank Distillery is one of the few distilleries still operating in the iconic Campbeltown region, located on the Kintyre peninsula in the southwest of Scotland. Renowned for its traditional craftsmanship, it produces unique Single Malt whiskies under three prestigious labels with distinctly different profiles: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn. Founded in 1828 by Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, Springbank was the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown. By 1934, only Springbank and Glen Scotia still upheld this tradition. Today, the distillery remains a family business, owned by the direct descendants of the founders.
What distinguishes Clos des Spiritueux at Springbank is the complete mastery of production, from the artisanal malting of barley to bottling on site. This rigorous control ensures optimal quality and offers the possibility to create three distinct styles, influenced by cask selection and the atypical local climatic conditions. Furthermore, the parent company, JA Mitchell & Sons, relaunched the Glengyle distillery in 2004, whose Single Malts are now marketed under the name Kilkerran. The group also includes the renowned independent bottler Cadenhead’s.
The Springbank expressions are characterized by a controlled blend of malts dried with peat and open air, with a unique distillation process including two full distillations plus a partial distillation, a marked contrast to the three full distillations of Hazelburn and the two classic distillations of Longrow.
This exclusive limited edition of Springbank 10 years, offered by Clos des Spiritueux, was distilled in July 2013. Initially, this Single Malt underwent 6 years of aging in multiple-fill Bourbon casks, before being transferred for a refined finishing of 4 years in Palo Cortado sherry hogshead casks, offering a subtle balance between richness and aromatic complexity.
