The Torabhaig Distillery is ideally located in the charming village of Teangue, nestled on the Sound of Sleat of the magnificent Isle of Skye, in Scotland. Founded in January 2017 by Mossburn Distillers, it is among the newest distilleries in the country and the second to be established on the Isle of Skye. Set in a historic abandoned 19th-century farm near the Allt Gleann stream, this distillery underwent four years of meticulous renovation to bring this exceptional building back to life. The mash tun has a capacity of 1.5 tons of malt, and eight Douglas fir fermentation tanks have been carefully installed. Production relies on two copper pot stills, named Sir Iain and Lady Noble, specially designed to produce one of the most phenolic peated distillates in Scotland, thus offering a unique and powerful aromatic profile. The local production team consists of nine passionate distillers, several of whom are emerging talents in the whisky industry. The distillates are expertly aged in oak casks, mainly former bourbon barrels, as well as occasionally in sherry hogsheads, virgin French oak barrels, and a variety of selected casks to enrich the complexity and depth of flavors.
Torabhaig Special Reserve was distilled in August 2018 and carefully matured in Bourbon, Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, as well as virgin American oak casks. This remarkable single malt is bottled at cask strength at an impressive 61.1%, ensuring exceptional intensity and richness. Production is limited to only 2,400 bottles, offering a precious exclusivity for collectors and discerning enthusiasts.
