Kornog - Cuvée Sant Erwan - 2023 Edition - 50%
Celtic Whisky Distillery is located in Pleubian, in the department of Côtes d’Armor, in the heart of Brittany. Founded in 1997 by Martine and Jean Donnay, this distillery is recognized as a true pioneer of quality French whisky. It stands out for several major artisanal specifics ensuring traditional and authentic production: direct flame cooking, slow and controlled distillation, exclusive use of traditional equipment including two small pot stills and massive wooden fermenters. Furthermore, the whisky's aging by the sea brings a unique aromatic complexity, influenced by the sea air and the humidity of the cellars. The Maison Villevert, an emblematic player in exceptional French spirits based in the Cognac region, reinforced this excellence by acquiring Celtic Whisky Distillery in 2020.
The distillery's first successful Single Malt is called Glann ar Mor, a Breton expression meaning "Seaside". The Kornog, the second iconic Single Malt, is characterized by a heavily peated profile, evoking the complex whiskies of the Scottish Islay islands. The distillery also offers a refined blend under the name Gwalarn, a well-crafted and elegant blend.
Kornog, which means "the west wind" in Breton, is an exceptional cuvée. The Limited Edition Sant Erwan 2023 celebrates Sant Erwan, an emblematic priest of Trégor celebrated every May 19. This Single Malt is made from peated malted barley, then carefully aged in Bourbon barrels placed in the heart of humid cellars bathed by sea spray and the strong winds of the Breton coast. Its reduction to 50% is done with the pure spring water of the distillery, ensuring a balanced finish, rich in freshness and aromatic complexity.
