BRUICHLADDICH - Islay Barley 2013 - 50%
The Bruichladdich Distillery, iconic and globally recognized, is strategically located on the island of Islay in Scotland, a region famous for its exceptional whiskies. It passionately and skillfully distills outstanding Single Malt whiskies under three flagship brands: Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte, and Octomore. Additionally, the distillery is also the craftsman behind the renowned The Botanist Gin. Founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers, the distillery has endured many challenges, including a major fire in 1934 followed by the death of William Harvey in 1936. After several ownership changes and a closure in 1994, Bruichladdich was revived in 2000 thanks to a group of investors led by Mark Reynier of Murray McDavid, already famous in the whiskey world with Waterford in Ireland. Today, the distillery combines tradition and innovation: its majestic Victorian equipment, gravity-fed and without computer automation, ensures impeccable artisanal quality. In 2012, Bruichladdich joined the prestigious Rémy Cointreau group. Authenticity and quality are at the heart of the process, with a particular focus on the local origin of the barley, essential to the identity of its whiskies.
The Bruichladdich range offers a unique tasting experience: non-peated whiskies, while heavily peated expressions are marketed under the Port Charlotte brand. The Octomore series stands out as the reference for the most heavily peated Single Malts in the world, with limited editions at record peat levels.
Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2013 is a tribute to the Islay terroir, made exclusively from locally grown Concerto barley. The 2013 vintage results from a unique collaboration with 7 Islay farming partners: Hunter Jackson at Cruach, Andrew and Donald Jones at Coull, Mark French at Rockside, Ian McKerrell at Island, Alistair Torrance at Mulindry, Raymond Fletcher at Dunlossit, and Raymond Stewart at Sunderland. This meticulous cask selection gave birth to a whisky aged 8 years in former first-fill American whisky barrels (75%) and former wine casks (25%) that held prestigious vintages from Ribera Del Duero, Pauillac, and Syrah. This aging imparts a complex depth to this Single Malt, combining fruity finesse and exceptional woody notes, perfectly representative of Islay's unique character.
